Religious Education is a life long journey. At Sacred Heart we offer opportunities for parishioners of all ages to grow in the love of Jesus and His Church through on-going formation.
Children in grades preschool through six meet on Sunday mornings from 9:00 until 10:30, from September through May. The Faith and Life series, used in first through eighth grade, focuses on basic doctrine, emphasizing the Sacramental life of the Church. A two year preparation is required for reception of First Penance and First Communion.
The Young Disciples, a combined group of youth from both Sacred Heart and St. Anthony's in grades seven through twelve, meet on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 till 8:00 pm. High school students use the Didache series beginning with an in depth study of Catholicism followed by Scripture, Church History and Morality. The two year preparation for Confirmation begins in ninth grade with a comprehensive overview of all Church teachings. In the tenth grade parents attend with students for half of the sessions during which time we examine how to live out those Church teachings.
The High School youth have many opportunities for socialization and service activity on the second and fourth Sunday night of each month.
An opportunity for detailed study of the lives of the saints and apologetics are offered for serious minded high school students in the Dead Theologians Society which meets twice each month during the school year and monthly in summer.
RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) is the process of prayer, study and discernment for those seeking either Baptism or Full Communion with the Catholic Church, as well as adult Catholics seeking the sacrament of Confirmation. However, all are welcome to attend, Catholics and non-Catholics. Sessions are held Sunday mornings from 9:15 till 10:15.
Please watch the bulletin for Adult Education offerings, special events and calendar changes.
