The Knights of Columbus is an international fraternal society of Catholic
men and is also the men's group of Sacred Heart. It was founded over one
hundred years ago by Father William J. McGivney in the basement of Saint
Mary's Church in New Haven, Connecticut. The reason was to provide a method
of protecting the rights of newly arrived Catholic immigrants. Through charity,
unity, fraternity and patriotism, the Knights of Columbus have grown into
a Catholic fraternal organization of over a million and half members. "Raising
High the Cross," assisting the church is one of the primary missions of
the Knights of Columbus, making sure that the Catholic Church remains vigorous
and undiminished. Knights serve the church as ushers, altar servers, lectors,
Eucharistic Ministers, and in the choir.
Family is also paramount in the Knights of Colmbus, allowing families to work together
in programs such as Operation Lamb ( the "Least Among My Brethern," Matt. 25:40), raising funds
to assist mentally retarded children, Adopt-A-Child for handicapped school children, blood drives,
special Olympics, protecting the right to life of all individuals, including the unborn,
helping senior citizens to remain healthy and active, visting the sick and infirm at home,
in hospitals and nursing homes, and sponsoring patriotic programs and awards in local high
schools on the subjects of citizenship and American History.
The Sacred Heart Council meets year round on the first and third Thursday of
each month at 7:30p.m. in the Founders Hall. If you are a practicing Catholic
and would enjoy meeting a fine group of men, consider joining the Knights.

The primary mission of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus Council #11103 is to support the Knights of Columbus both spiritually and physically. Members participate as volunteers for the many charitable and social activities undertaken by the Knights, who serve God by helping others. In addition, the Auxiliary assists the parish family and community with its own social and fund raising activities. Topping the list of service activities is the premier fund raising project, the White Elephant Sale and Raffle, held annually on the first Saturday in November. This fund raiser has enabled us to give financial assistance to as many as 23 church and community charitable organizations. The Ladies also prepare and serve lunch to Habitat for Humanity volunteers on three Thursdays in December, assist with refreshments for parish events and deliver the parish food collections to the Coalition for Human Care Center.
Meetings are held on the third Monday of each month, August through May, at 2PM in Founders Hall. Whatever the activity, there is an opportunity for socialization with old and new friends, be it a service project, a meeting including an interesting program, or the luncheons in November and May, the Christmas dinner or Spring Road trip.
Membership is comprised of the wives and widows of Knights of Columbus members. Regardless of their late spouse's Council affiliation, widows are cordially invited to become a member.
